NIF Golf Tournament – 2009

Annual NIF Golf Tournament Nets $3,000 for the RADM Sumner Shapiro Scholarship Program

A cool, cloudy, but rain-free September 8th brought 91 golfers, including a crew of 27 ONI sailors, led by the CAPT J. Todd Ross, to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley Golf Club for a day of  golf, comradeship, a great lunch, and a bunch of prizes.  All proceeds after expenses went to enhance the value of the NIF scholarship program.  The Tony Sesow Golf Classic was, as usual, masterfully handled by CAPT Tony Sesow, who has put on this great show every year since 1993.  He was, as in the past several years, more than ably assisted by ISC Peter Buchan.  Together, they showcase a memorable event every year.

Corporate Sponsors, and those donating prizes this year, included Bryce Resorts, CACI, CTGi, Decisive Analytics, Delex Systems, General Dynamics, General Motors, McMunn Associates, Pilatus Business Aircraft, the Washington Capitals, and the Washington Redskins.  The Foundation is very grateful for their support, many of whom are faithful year-after-year contributors.  Thanks also to RADM Mac Showers, who sponsored two foursomes of ONI sailors for a day of R&R away from their daily heroic efforts supporting our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other far-flung outposts of civilization as they fight the war against terrorists.  Others who also deserve a vote of thanks for sponsoring teams of sailors are Alexis Slebodnick, CACI, McMunn Associates, and CAPTs Roger Granum, Joe Mazzafro, Holly Vaughn, and Sid Wood.
