Donations

This page will contain information concering donations to the Naval Intelligence Foundation and will be maintained by Roger Granum. 

Through its Awards Programs, NIF provides annually: 

  • Seven Lifetime NIP memberships
  • Eight Five-year NIP memberships
  • 24 One-year NIP memberships
  • Seven $100 Bonds to ONI and IS Sailors of the Year
  • Three $1,500 scholarships for the children of active duty Naval Intelligence Officer and Enlisted personnel
  • One $1000 prize and a five-year NIP membership to the winner of the Naval Institute Proceedings Naval Intelligence Essay Contest and a $500 prize and one-year NIP membership to the second place winner

While several of the NIF awards are endowed (Taylor, Inman, Long, Showers, two of the ONI Sailor of the Year Awards, and the three scholarships) most are funded on a year-to-year basis.  Ultimately, we hope to endow all awards in order to ensure their continuity.  This need provides an opportunity for groups e.g., NIP Chapters, or individuals who might want to endow an award. Groups or individuals who endow these awards will be recognized in the NIP Quarterly and when the awards are presented, usually at the annual IS forum or N-2 Conference. 

 Recognition levels for contributions to NIF programs are: 

  • Contributors ($1-$99),
  • Benefactors ($100-$499),
  • Life Benefactors ($500-$999), 
  • Sustaining Life Benefactors ($1,000-$9,999),
  • Trustee’s Circle ($10,000-$24,999),
  • President’s Circle ($25,000-$49,999), and
  • Chairman’s Circle ($50,000-$99,999).

When the awards program is self-sustaining, future fund raising will enrich the scholarship fund now primarily underwritten by corporate sponsors. We welcome direct contributions (cash/check), but we also encourage you to help yourself while helping the Foundation. If you have highly appreciated assets such as stocks, you can contribute them to the Foundation, realize a tax deduction at current market value, and avoid capital gains taxes. For those of you who have created or are considering creating Charitable Remainder Trusts, we encourage you to consider making NIF one of the remaindermen. Members using such estate planning tools, which benefit NIF, will be recognized annually as members of the Benefactors Circle.
