Naval Intelligence Foundation
The Naval Intelligence Foundation (NIF®) was established at the direct request of the Director of Naval Intelligence (DNI) for the specific purpose of raising and distributing funds in the form of awards recognizing excellence in performance on the part of Naval Intelligence personnel. Later, the Rear Admiral Sumner Shapiro Scholarship Program was established to provide scholarships to dependent children (under 24 years of age) of regular and reserve Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard officer and enlisted intelligence personnel. Included in the scholarship program is one specifically for active duty enlisted personnel (Intelligence Specialists).
On January 1, 2011, NIF merged with the Naval Intelligence Professionals (NIP) and is now an integral part of that 501c(3) organization with the same purpose and objectives as before.
