2010 ADM Robert L.J. Long Awardee
ADM R. L. J. Long Award Presented to MIDN 1/c Campion
Admiral William O. Studeman, USN (Ret.), Chairman of the Naval Intelligence Foundation’s Board of Trustees, presented the Foundation’s ADM Robert L. J. Long Award at the U.S. Naval Academy’s Prizes and Awards Ceremony, 25 May 2010. The recipient of the 2010 award was MIDN 1/c John Edward Campion, USN. The award is given to that midshipman of the graduating class who has the highest level of academic achievement among those students participating in the honors program. It is presented in honor of Admiral Robert L. J. Long, USNA Class of 1944, who was a staunch supporter of Naval Intelligence. The award consists of a brass spyglass, a 5-year membership in the Naval Intelligence Professionals (NIP), and a commemorative wall plaque.
Midshipman Campion also received a Truman Scholarship in International Affairs. After a summer internship at DIA, Ensign Campion will attend the School of International Studies at Peking University for a year before continuing his studies at the London School of Economics for a second year. After completing his graduate studies, Ensign Campion will begin his training for the submarine service.
