LCOL John Guenther, USMC (ret)
NIP has learned that LCOL John Guenther, USMC (ret) has suffered a recurrence of the liver disease which he first defeated almost ten years ago. His doctors have counseled him that the disease is terminal. John is resting at home and, in conversations with NIPmates, appears to be mentally alert and in good spirits. A long-time member of NIP and former member of the NIP Board of Directors, John served more than thirty years in the Marine Corps and, upon retirement, continued to serve in a civilian capacity, rising to be the head of Marine Corps Intelligence and, in many eyes, is the father of the intelligence specialty within The Corps. For those wishing to send cards, John and Geri’s address is:

John Guenther enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1948. In September 1950 Corporal Guenther landed at Inchon with the Seventh Marines. In November and December, Sergeant Guenther was in the S2 during and in the Chosin Reservoir battle. He served other challenging/tough tours in Cuba, Vietnam, and East Germany (as part of the Liaison Mission to the Group of Soviet Forces Germany). He is a great Marine who embodies the full measure and meaning of Semper Fidelis.
